On Tuesday we held our annual Lapathon at the school. This year’s event started in humid conditions with hats, sunglasses and Mrs Howard’s spray bottle at the ready to deal with the heat.  Our Preps, Grade 1’s and Grade 2’s all put their best foot forward walking, running, skipping, hopping, dancing and rolling their way around the oval with parents, grandparents, friends and families all participating. With a total of almost 1500 laps completed by the junior students it was time for some water, fresh fruit from the parents club and some quiet time in class.

As the clock struck 12:30 our Grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 students started off on their Lapathon with the promise of some incentives from Mrs Fitz ringing in the ears of some students and a big push for a new student record of thirty laps. With Mrs Fitz encouraging silly walks, Mrs Adams supervising the Limbo bar, the sun still shining and the smell of sweaty shoes and socks increasing by the minute everyone made one final push for some extra laps.

No matter how much money was raised by the Lapathon it was fantastic to see a great community turn up which provided the type of community atmosphere that Strathfieldsaye Primary School values so much. The participation of parents, siblings and grandparents makes the day enjoyable for everyone involved and we thank you all for your efforts on the day and in the raising of funds in the lead up to the event.

The sponsorship gathered by students and families is a significant contribution to the school’s resources and it is our intention to use funds from events like the Lapathon to continue to be able to offer the wide variety of curriculum programs at school.
