Vietnam Veteran Visit

August 11, 2015

For those of you familiar with the Redgum song I was only 19 you will know the lyric “Frankie kicked the mine the day that mankind kicked the moon”. Last week Oliver Mayman, from Grade 5, organised for Frankie (Frank Hunt) to attend the school and speak to the Grade 5/6 students about his story including his time in the Vietnam War. The students hung on Franks every word as he recounted his role as a forward scout and his amazing recovery from his landmine injuries. Frank also spoke of his work supporting other returned veterans and walking wounded and connected this to how each student in the school should support each other. I congratulate Oliver on his initiative and enthusiasm in organising this event and I know that the staff and students got a great deal from the experience.
